Hi! Iʼm Ashley, founder of The Bare Home, and this is the story behind it all.

Discovering a Different Way to Live (and Clean)

The Bare Home really started long before there was a name or a logo. I spent years living in Germany with my husband, where I saw a different rhythm of everyday life—less waste, more intention, and simple systems that just made sustainable choices feel normal, not “special.” Sustainable choices werenʼt marketed as a niche lifestyle; they were just part of the daily routine. That experience completely shifted how I thought about “clean” and what it should look and feel like in a home.

When I became pregnant with our first child, my awareness deepened. Suddenly it wasnʼt just about what cleaned well—it was about what stayed behind. What lingered on surfaces, in the air, and on my skin in the space where a baby would soon crawl, touch, and explore. I remember holding a bottle and thinking, I donʼt want this on our floors, on tiny hands, or in the air my baby breathes.

That awareness changed how I looked at my own lifestyle. I became much more mindful about what I was bringing into our home, onto our skin, and into the air we breathe. When we moved back to Canada and settled here with our kids, I wanted that same kind of thoughtful, low‑waste living to feel possible for families here too, but I wanted it with made with safer, non-toxic, natural ingredients. At that time, it was harder than I thought it would be — I remember standing in the cleaning aisle, turning bottles around, reading ingredients I didnʼt recognize and feeling uneasy about bringing them into the place my family called home. From that point on, I became much more intentional about what we used in our home—on our skin, our dishes, our clothes, and our surfaces. More than anything, I wanted my kids to grow up seeing these choices as normal— refilling instead of tossing, caring for what we use, and understanding that small, thoughtful habits add up.

Starting Small and Listening Closely

The Bare Home began as a passion project from my kitchen table. At first, I offered a mix of sustainable and zero‑waste products online and at local farmersʼ markets—things like fair trade goods and eco‑friendly home items, alongside cleaning products. I was testing, learning, listening paying attention to what actually made life easier for people, what they came back for. I didnʼt start with a perfect plan — just a deep belief that there had to be a better way, and a willingness to listen closely as I figured it out.

Refills quickly stood out. When we introduced refill options for cleaning products, they took off. People were excited to reuse their bottles and cut down on plastic. Neighbours left empties on their steps; Iʼd drive around and refill them. It
was simple, low‑tech, and a bit scrappy—but it was proof. Refilling wasnʼt just a “nice idea”; it genuinely fit into busy, real lives. Thatʼs when I decided to focus The Bare Home on what felt most meaningful and most useful: safe, effective, refillable cleaning essentials.

Growing The Bare Home

From there, things grew naturally. We narrowed in on everyday products—hand soap, dish soap, all‑purpose cleaner, laundry care—the things that show up in your home every single day.

Every formula is built around a few core promises: plant‑powered, non‑toxic, and created to be both safe and genuinely effective, so you never feel like youʼre choosing between what works and what feels right for your family.

Over time, The Bare Home moved from local markets into shops across Canada, then onto bigger shelves and more homes. Each step was rooted in the same goal: make eco‑friendly cleaning feel accessible, not intimidating; simple, not preachy.

Why the Bottles Look (and Feel) the Way They Do

Design has always been part of the story for me. I never liked that so many cleaning products had to be hidden away under the sink because the packaging was loud, busy, or just didnʼt belong in a my space. With The Bare Home, I wanted the bottles to quietly fit into your home, not compete with it.

Thatʼs why our bottles are clear, with a quiet, minimal design that lets your space breathe instead of shouting for attention. Theyʼre meant to complement your counters, shelves, and sinks, not clash with them beautiful enough to leave out, and simple enough that they feel like theyʼve always belonged there. The design isnʼt just about looks; itʼs tied to our refill philosophy too, so one bottle can stay in your home for a long time.

Leading with Care, Not Perfection

My philosophy for The Bare Home is pretty simple: progress over perfection, always. Weʼre constantly learning, reviewing ingredients, and improving our formulas and packaging as better options emerge. I care deeply about transparency and trust—whatʼs on the label, how itʼs made, and the impact it has on your home and our planet.

I donʼt see The Bare Home as the hero of this story—you are. Youʼre the one choosing to refill instead of toss, to read labels, to bring safer products into your home. My role, and our role as a brand, is to make those choices feel doable, beautiful, and grounded in real care.

From my family to yours, thank you for being part of this journey—one refill, one small shift, one simple, mindful choice at a time.

Because you care, keep it bare. The Bare Home.
