Progress, Together: How The Bare Home Communicates Change | Change & Evolution Part 3
Change & Evolution, Part 3. When The Bare Home evolves a product, we tell you why — here's how we approach transparency, why your questions make us better, and what our commitment to progress really looks like.
Here's something we've learned from building a company people actually invite into their homes: trust is not built in the big moments. It's built in the small ones.
It's built when you can read a label and understand every ingredient on it. When you get an email that says we've updated this formula, and here's exactly why. When you ask a question and get a straight answer — not a deflection, not a marketing response, not a carefully worded non-answer that says nothing.
That's the company we're working every day to be.
This is the final post in our Change & Evolution series, and it's the one that's really about us and you — about how we show up when things change, and why we believe that honest communication is just as important as getting the formula right.
Why Transparency Isn't Optional For Us
Transparency is one of our core brand commitments, and it's not abstract. It shows up in the specific choices we make about how we talk to you.
It means our ingredient lists are written to be read, not just to meet regulatory requirements. It means when we change something, we say so — proactively, with enough context that you can decide for yourself whether you're comfortable with it. It means we don't quietly swap an ingredient and hope nobody notices.
Some companies treat changes as a liability, disclose minimally, and move past quickly. We want to treat them as an opportunity to reinforce why we do things the way we do. A product or packaging update is a chance to say: here's what we were using, here's what we learned, here's what we changed, and here's why we believe this is better for your home and your family.
That kind of communication takes more work. It requires us to know our products deeply, explain them clearly, and trust that our customers are discerning enough to appreciate honesty over spin. We do trust that. Completely.
How We Tell You About Changes
When something in one of The Bare Home products changes, our aim is to communicate it in a way that's clear, timely, and helpful. In practice, that looks like a few things:
- Product pages will be updated with new ingredient information, updated usage notes, and any relevant context about why the change was made.
- Email updates will go out to customers who've purchased the evolved product, giving them the what and the why before they ever notice something is different.
- Social posts and stories will bring the broader community into the conversation, because even customers who haven't tried a specific product yet benefit from seeing how we handle change.
- Our blog — like this series, right here — gives us space to go deeper: to explain not just what changed but how we think about change, so you understand our process, not just our decisions.

None of this is a formula we apply mechanically. The communication style adapts to the change — a packaging update gets a different kind of explanation than a formula adjustment. But the underlying principle is always the same: you deserve to know, and we're going to tell you.
Your Questions and Concerns Make Us Better
One of the things we genuinely love, even when it's uncomfortable, is when customers communicate back.
When someone writes to say “how exactly does this new ingredient work?” — that's useful. Not just as a customer service interaction, but as a signal about whether our communication landed the way we intended. If customers are surprised by a change we thought we'd clearly communicated, that's on us. We learn from that.
When someone asks why do you use this specific ingredient instead of that one? — that's a question that sharpens our thinking. Sometimes we have a very clear answer. Sometimes the question prompts us to revisit an assumption we'd made too quickly. Both outcomes are good.
And when a customer shares a story about how switching to our refill system changed their weekly routine — how they feel better about what they're bringing into their home, how their kids have started asking questions about why they use “the bare home stuff” — that's a reminder of why this matters.
Your feedback doesn't just help us refine what we make. It helps us understand how we're showing up, what we're communicating well, and where there's room to be clearer. That's a gift, honestly, and we don't take it lightly.
Everything Comes Back to the Core
Through all of it — formula refinements, ingredient updates, packaging iterations, any change big or small — there's one thing that doesn't change.
What we're making and why.
Safe, effective, beautifully simple products that respect both your home and the planet. That's it. That's the whole thing. Every decision we make, every change we consider, every conversation we have with suppliers and researchers and customers — it all runs through that filter.
When something moves us closer to that, we do it. When something moves us further away — even if it's cheaper, even if it's trendy, even if it would be easier in the short term — we don't.
Our five brand values aren't a marketing slogan. They're a working framework: Safe, Successful, Simple, Sustainable, Stylish. We return to them constantly. We ask ourselves whether the choices we're making honour all five — not just the convenient ones, not just the ones that make a good story. All five, as honestly as we can manage.
Sustainability Is on a Journey. So Are We.
Here's something we want to say plainly: we haven't arrived.
We're a B Corp-certified Canadian brand that cares deeply about doing things right. We have real credentials, real commitments, real accountability — and we are real people with real families. But we also know that sustainability is a direction, not a destination. There's always more we can learn, more we can improve, more ways we can reduce our waste and help make a difference.
That's not an apology. It's an invitation.

It's an invitation to come with us, to be part of a company that's openly, honestly working toward something, rather than claiming it already got there. To ask us questions. To hold us to our values. To tell us when something doesn't line up with what you expected from us.
We chose to pursue B Corp certification not because it was easy, or because it made for a nice badge on the website, but because it requires us to be accountable in ways that matter. It asks hard questions. It raises the bar. And it connects us to a community of businesses that take the same standard seriously.
That accountability extends to you.
What we mean when we say “sustainable”
Sustainability isn't a single feature or a badge for us — it's a lens we try to hold over every decision, across three fronts:
- Planet — using less and wasting less: non-toxic ingredients, a refill-first system that cuts packaging, and sourcing choices that lower our footprint.
- People — fair, honest relationships with the customers, suppliers, and community we work with, and products that are safe in the homes they go into.
- Accountability — measurable commitments and independent standards (like our B Corp assessment) rather than claims you just have to take our word for.
And because “sustainable” is an easy word to say and a harder one to prove, we try to hold ourselves to specifics we can back up. It's a direction we're always moving in, not a finish line we claim to have already crossed.
We're Glad You're Here
Building The Bare Home has always been about more than cleaning products. It's been about imagining a version of everyday life where the safe, sustainable choice is also the beautiful, simple, effective one — where you don't have to sacrifice anything to do right by your family and the planet.
We're not done building that. Honestly, we never will be, and we're okay with that.
What we are is committed. To staying curious. To listening well. To communicating honestly. To making the changes that need to be made, and to bringing you along with us when we do.
So thank you for reading this series. Thank you for the questions, the reviews, the stories, the occasional pushback. Thank you for choosing products that reflect your values, and for trusting us to keep earning that choice.
We're in this together.
— Ashley and The Bare Home team

Frequently Asked Questions
How does The Bare Home communicate product changes?
We won't just tell you something changed. We bring you along for the thinking behind it.
There's a real difference between being notified and being included, and we care about the second one. When any Bare Home product evolves, we don't want you to simply receive an update and accept it. We want you to understand why it's better, see how we arrived there, and feel like you were part of the journey — because in a lot of ways, you are. Your feedback, your questions, and your real-life experience with our products shape the direction we move in.
In practice, that means product pages get updated with new ingredient information and honest context about what changed. It means email updates go out to customers before anything looks or feels different in their homes. It means we share the story on social — not just the headline, but the reasoning — so the broader community can follow along and weigh in. And when a change is significant enough to warrant a deeper conversation, we write about it here on the blog, the way we're doing right now in this series.
The format adapts to the nature of the update. But the intention never changes: we're not managing your awareness of something that already happened. We're inviting you into an ongoing process of learning and improving — one we genuinely believe is better when you're part of it.
Is The Bare Home a sustainable brand?
Yes — and we want to be honest about what that means, because “sustainable” gets used a lot and doesn't always mean much.
The Bare Home is a certified B Corp, which means our environmental and social commitments have been independently verified, not just self-declared. Our refill system reduces waste by up to 80% compared to buying a new bottle each time. Our products are Canadian-made, which keeps our shipping footprint smaller. Our formulas are non-toxic, made with plant- and mineral-based ingredients and chosen with both your health and the planet's health in mind.
But here's the thing we'll always say: we haven't arrived. Sustainability isn't a box you tick once and move on from. It's a direction, and we're always working to move further in it. We're constantly looking for ways to reduce our impact, improve our sourcing, and raise our standards. When we find them, we act on them. And if we fall short of where we want to be, we look again. That kind of honesty is, we think, part of what sustainability actually looks like in practice.
How can I give feedback about a Bare Home product?
Please do — genuinely. Your feedback isn't just welcome here, it's useful.
When you tell us something worked beautifully, that's affirming. When you tell us something fell short, that's actionable. When you ask a question we haven't answered clearly enough yet, that helps us get better at communicating. All of it feeds back into how we develop products, how we write about them, and how we show up as a brand.
You can reach us directly through our contact page [link], by replying to any email we've sent you, or by leaving a review on the product page. We don't always respond to every single message as fast as we'd like, but nothing goes unread, and the patterns in what we hear genuinely shape what we do next.
So if something's on your mind — a product, a scent, an ingredient, an experience — tell us. We mean it.
